You turned me upside down

He tried to put his arms around her tiny little frame, like he always did when he wanted to comfort her. But this time, she distanced herself from him.

“Don’t.” she said. He noticed her voice was cold. Harsh. Almost cruel. In that moment, he knew. She wasn’t the same girl he fell in love with. He still loved her, so much he felt his heart froze when she stepped away from his touch. All he wanted was to envelope her in his arms and tell her everything was going to be alright. She didn’t need to tell him something was wrong. He could always tell from her eyes.

He looked at her, tried searching her eyes for an answer. They weren’t the same ones he saw so often he could memorize them. He was confused. “Did I do something wrong?” he asked, his voice soft.

“Nothing. It’s…it’s fine.” She said, reaching out for his hand. He took her delicate hand into his own, then hesitantly brought her into his arms, for fear of being rejected again. She didn’t pull away this time.
