Hannah's cold

by Kerry

Late one evening in the wee hours of the night, Hannah woke up with a scratchy throat, runny nose, and the sniffles. She decided to get herself out of bed to go the bathroom for a kleenex. Paul was still busy sleeping but soon woke up to Hannah blowing her nose and coughing. He decides to get himself out of bed to see what the problem is.

Paul: "Hey, you feeling alright?"
Hannah: "I'm not sure, I think I'm getting a cold. My throat feels sore, I got a runny nose, and I'm coughing too."
Paul: "Yeah I heard you through the door a little while ago."
Paul: "Look whatever you do, don't give it to me ok. I don't want it."
Hannah (blowing her nose again): "Oh don't worry sweetie, I won't."
Paul: "Glad to hear it."
Hannah: "Since you don't want my cold, maybe I should sleep on the couch for the rest of the night. What do you think?"
Paul: "Whatever you decide is ok by me."

So after coming out of the bathroom together, Hannah then grabs some blankets out of the linen closet along with a comforter and heads downstairs to the living room to sleep on the couch. Unfortuneatly, her cold keeps her awake. The following hours later, Paul comes downstairs to check up on her.

Paul: "Hi honey, how you feeling?"
Hannah: "Terrible, I didn't sleep a wink all night (coughing)."
Paul: "Well is there anything I can do for you at all?"
Hannah: "No that won't be necessary. When I feel up to it, I'll struggle down to the pharmacy and get some cold medicine."
Paul: "Right then."

A few hours later, Hannah gets herself cleaned up and then heads down to the pharmacy just a few blocks from her and Paul's house. Meanwhile, Paul's sitting watching t.v. and the phone rings. It's Jo calling

Paul (answering the phone): "Hello?"
Jo: "Hi Paul, it's Jo."
Paul: "Oh hi Jo, what's up?"
Jo: "Oh not much, where's Hannah?"
Paul: "She just went to the pharmacy."
Jo: "The pharmacy?? What for? Is she sick?"
Paul: "Fraid so, she just came down with a cold."
Jo: "Aw that's too bad."
Jo: "You haven't caught it yet have you?"
Paul:"No and I don't want to either."
Jo: (laughing)
Jo: "Yeah I don't blame you."

Moments later, Hannah walks in the door with a plastic bag full of cough medicine. She notices Paul on the phone and wonders who he is talking to.

Paul: "It's Jo."
Hannah: (nods)
Hannah: "Ah...ah...ah...a-choo!"
Paul: "Gesundeit!"
Hannah: "Thank you."
Paul: "Did you hear that Jo?"
Jo: "Yeah I did, poor Hannah."
Paul: "Yeah I know."

In the meantime, Hannah is getting out all the medication she bought for herself which consist of Contact C, Vaporub, Nyquill, and Halls. She then takes a Contact C with a glass of water and then places a Halls in her mouth. Afterwards, she comes back into the living room and "waves" to Jo.

Paul: "Oh, Hannah's waving at you Jo."
Jo: "Oh is she? Hi Hannah."
Paul (to Hannah): "She says Hi Hannah."
Hannah: (smiling)

Hannah then walks over to the chair to sit down while sipping her water.

Hannah: (sniffling)
Jo: "She doesn't sound too good."
Paul: "No she doesn't."

A few weeks follow and Hannah is soon getting over her cold. Eventually she recovers from her cold and is 100% better (that is until Paul gets it).
