Chapter 4: Final part

Jack had arranged for the three of them to have dinner together that night at a restaurant not far from the hotel they were staying at. The deal was nearly successful, with positive feedback coming from the big bosses of the US branch of the management. What was left was now feedback from the public – they were going to send in copies of Paul’s CD to radio stations, then see if they were getting frequent airplay before finalizing the deal.

Laura had arrived first, not wanting to risk being yelled at by Jack again. She was genuinely afraid of Jack. He had the ability to yell at everyone for no rhyme or reason, the only exception were the artistes signed to his label; he was actually human to these artistes. Just then, she noticed Paul walking up to join her.

As usual, he gave her a warm smile and said hello to her. “Have you been waiting long? My hairdryer broke down on me and I had to phone for a new one.” He explained.

“It’s alright, I just arrived myself.” Laura said.

“You look very nice tonight.” Paul complimented, noticing that Laura had let her hair down this time.

“Thank you. And you look nice too.” She said, smiling back at him. She loved how he was always trying to make her comfortable, and it was a big boost to her confidence as well. Laura liked how different it was with Paul compared to how things were with Jack, who was always putting her down.
