Lucy Brown to appear at KAPOW
12th May Written By Saara

Lucy Brown is going to appear at KAPOW! Comic Convention in May 2012. For more information and tickets, visit their website.

Acclaimed Doctor Who scriptwriter (“Rise Of The Cybermen”, “The Age Of Steel”, “The Girl Who Waited”) and writer/creator of hit Comedy Central sitcom Threesome Tom MacRae and actor Russell Tovey (Being Human, Sherlock) come to Kapow! to talk about the relationship between writing sci-fi drama and television comedy by asking the question: how much is creating a joke like constructing a high concept narrative?

Joining them on the panel will be stars of the sitcom Adam Garcia (Threesome, House), actress and comedy writer Lucy Brown (Primeval) and comedian Tom Allen.

In addition to comic-book panels with Marvel, DC, Image and Millarworld, other events taking place include An Audience with Nick Frost, Noel Clarke Q&A with exclusive footage from Storage 24, the creative team behind Batman: Arkham City from Rocksteady Studios, British writer and director Gareth Evans talking The Raid, two of Britain’s biggest comedians as Jimmy Carr interviews Frankie Boyle live about his love of geek culture, plus the much-loved TV personality and comic-book writer Jonathan Ross talking America’s Got Powers.

Live interviews with huge film, TV and comic stars will be taking place all weekend at the Total Film, SFX and Comic Heroes stage, plus the massive cosplay competition.

Tickets for Kapow! are only available in advance and through the website www.kapowcomicconvention.com. Tickets for Kapow! 2011 sold out ahead of the event, so get your tickets now.

Belinda Stewart-Wilson to star in Chicken
12th May Written By Saara

Belinda Stewart-Wilson (Christine Johnson) is starring in Mike Batistick’s play Chicken. For more information and tickets, please click here.

Mike Batistick’s play Chicken will make its London debut Trafalgar Studios 2. June 25-July 21, according to Whatsonstage.com. Sam Neophytou will direct the production.
The play, which is set in New York City, focuses on Wendall and Floyd, a pair of childhood best friends who are grooming a sickly rooster for an illegal cockfight.
The cast will includes Craig Kelly, Belinda Stewart-Wilson, and George Georgiou.

Set in the Bronx, Chicken is a gritty play full of street-smart humour about two childhood pals, Wendall and Floyd, an unhappy wife – and a sickly rooster they are grooming for an illegal cockfight.

Wendall (Craig Kelly, Coronation Street, Queer As Folk) and his pregnant wife’s stifling and cramped apartment is full of the mess of desperate people. Floyd (George Georgiou, Mamma Mia!-The Movie) is kipping down on the sofa, and a visit from his father, his brash ex wife and the local hustler, clearly shows what an unstable upbringing and a burning desire for money can do – but will the cock be their meal ticket?

Chicken is an acute observation of modern life in the city, as the dysfunctional friends scrabble and strut like cocks, fighting in the grimy, slightly desperate world they inhabit. There is no working class – this is the world of the new underclass.

Douglas Henshall to star in Shetland
7th May Written By Saara

Douglas Henshall will play the lead role in new BBC One drama Shetland.

The two-part crime thriller has been adapted by David Kane (Taggart), from the series of books by award-winning writer Ann Cleeves.

Set against the Scottish backdrop of the Shetland Isles, the drama follows Detective Jimmy Perez (Henshall), a native who returns home after a long time away.

The uncovering of human remains and the accidental shooting death of an elderly woman soon leads to trouble for Perez, as he and his team find themselves at the centre of a family feud threatening to tear the community apart.

“I am very much looking forward to working with David Kane, filming in Scotland and being back on BBC One,” said Henshall.

The 46-year-old actor’s recent credits include BBC One’s The Silence and South Riding. He is currently filming period ghost drama The Secret of Crickley Hall for the channel.

“Shetland has a fantastic combination of writing, acting, directing and producing talent,” said BBC Scotland’s head of drama Christopher Aird.

“It is a hugely exciting story and part of a project to bring the very best drama to BBC Scotland in the coming years.”

Shetland will film on location in Scotland and will air later in 2012.

     Ruth Bradley talks to CultBox
5th May Written By Saara

Here’s a lovely interview with Ruth Bradley where she talks about the Beauty and the Beast pilot, Primeval, Titanic and Grabbers.

How was filming the Beauty and the Beast pilot?
“It was good, I think, it was mad! Lots of work, lovely people, it was great fun. It’s more in the vein of the classic fairytale, but it’s about a princess and the beast is a bodyguard.”

Can you tell us a bit about your character, Grace?
“She’s the princess of this kingdom… I’m not really sure how much I’ve allowed to say, it’s very top secret! I don’t want to get killed in the night.”

Darius Campbell, who most UK viewers will remember from Pop Idol and Popstars, is playing the bodyguard. What was he like to work with?
“Really nice guy, he’s a lovely fella. We were a pair of Celts – Scottish and Irish! It was nice to be with somebody from closer to home. I wasn’t really into Pop Idol but obviously I knew the name.”

So will you be moving to America if that goes ahead?
“I guess so, yeah, I haven’t really thought about it yet! It’s part of the job, you go wherever the work is. I’ve been in Ireland for ten years but it’s par for the course. If you’re worried about it then you’re probably in the wrong job! You just go ‘okay, where we off to today?’. I very much just think about it the day before. Or after I’ve finished!”

Titanic has just come out on DVD, did you watch that when it was on ITV1 recently?
“I saw it on DVD and I loved the scripts when I read it initially. You had to read it a few times to get a grip on what’s happening, there’s so many different storylines. I was really excited to see how John, the director, had brought it all together.

“I had the luxury of watching the four of them back to back which I think is the best way to see it, so you have no time to forget what’s happened! I really enjoyed it as a four-hour marathon!”

What was the filming experience like on that? Wet, I imagine?
“It was quite wet but the main thing was the heat, it was insane! We were all sweating non-stop. We shot it in Budapest in the middle in the summer so it was roasting. The poor director would be shouting ‘Can you remember to shiver?’, while we felt like we were on a beach.

“So yeah, we were wet, but mainly with sweat, which was lovely. I didn’t have too much water frolicking, although I wouldn’t have minded. You’d look up at the beams and see all the crew lads with their shirts off, just flaunting it!”

Do you miss Primeval? I guess it was quite a while ago now that you shot Series 4 and Series 5 back to back?
“Yeah, it was nearly two years ago! It was great fun, it was my first proper foray into CGI, so that was a bit of an education! Obviously I hadn’t really come across the man with the tennis ball on a stick before! That’s one to get used to.

“It’s like being a kid, with someone going ‘And now the slipodosaurus is running at you’ and you’re thinking ‘I don’t know what a slipodosaurus looks like’ so you just make it up in your head and pretend to be afraid of it!”

You’ve got Tormented director Jon Wright’s monster movie Grabbers coming out soon, starring Richard Coyle and Russell Tovey. Can you tell us a bit about that?
“Yeah, I really liked making that film. It’s kind of a mad-cap comedy monster horror romantic movie. It’s set on this island off of Ireland and this washed-up policeman lives there. My character’s this very by-the-book policewoman who comes in from the city to help him out and they’re kinda chalk and cheese. ”

“Basically, this alien from the sea comes and sucks everyone’s blood on the island. And they figure out that the only way he won’t such your blood and kill you is if you’re drunk, as he’s allergic to alcohol.

“So we’re all marooned on this island for the night and we have to get smashed and fight the alien from the sea while we’re hammered. It’s just hilarious and a great craic for me, I’d never played drunk like that before, pretty much non-stop. ”

Laila Rouass wants to be the next Angelina Jolie
24th Apr Written By Saara

Please notice the source…

LAILA ROUASS has let slip why she quit Holby City – she wants to be the next Angelina Jolie and adopt a brood of kids.
The beauty quit her role as registrar Sahira Shah earlier this month after more than a year.

Single mum Laila, who has a four-year-old, Inez, said: “It was quite emotional leaving Holby but it was the right time. I was working long hours and wanted to spend more time with my daughter.”

Talking at a Cobra event for Lady GaGa’s hatter Little Shilpa, Laila added: “I’d love more kids. I’ve always wanted to adopt.

“When I was younger I used to volunteer at the Mother Teresa charities in India.

“I’d like to be Angelina but I have to find my Brad Pitt first!”

     Article about The Kidnap Diaries
22nd Apr Written By Saara

Here’s an article about The Kidnap Diaries starring our Douglas Henshall. It will air on BBC4 on April 26th.

The Kidnap Diaries tells the story of journalist Sean Langan who was held captive by the Taliban in 2008. It will be shown on BBC Four on 26 April 2012.

In 2008, British journalist Sean Langan visited Pakistan with the goal of filming Taliban training camps. He was kidnapped and held for nearly four months, the threat of death hanging over him the whole time. Now his story is being told in The Kidnap Diaries, a one hour drama due to be shown on BBC Four on Thursday 26 April 2012.

Douglas Henshall plays Langan, who was not unfamiliar with the dangers of dealing with the Taliban, having already made the award winning films Fighting the Taliban and Meeting the Taliban. Also in the play is Jimi Mistry, playing Samiullah Sharaf, a freelance journalist who was captured at the same time as Langan and also freed after three months.

Actors in The Kidnap Diaries

Scottish actor Douglas Henshall is these days best known for his role as Nick Cutter in Primeval but his career dates back to the 1990s with his first recurring role being as Corporal Berry in Lipstick on Your Collar. Other roles have included Brian Forget in Common as Muck, Daniel Nash in Psychos, Tony Watson in Dalziel and Pascoe and Robert Dunbar in Sea of Souls. More recently, he played Detective Inspector John Tolin in Collision, Jim in The Silence and Joe Astell in South Riding.
